As aficionados of the finest automobiles, we like coupes. Coupes are automobiles with two doors, a fixed roof and a trunk. Don’t get fooled by charlatans who are trying to sell you 4 doors SUVs, chopped-top sedans and 5 doors hatchback as a coupe. A proper coupe is low, wide, stylish and sophisticated.
What is the nicest coupe ever made ?
![]() 01/27/2016 at 12:09 |

Easy, Montego is always the answer:
And if anyone answers with a coupe that has a B Pillar they are wrong.
REALLY, REALLY WRONG

I would think that the pontoons take away from it’s top speed.

So good that they wrote a song about it.

No b-pillar, you say? :D
![]() 01/27/2016 at 12:21 |

The Meadows Frisky, obviously.
![]() 01/27/2016 at 12:21 |

I would agree with you, but a ‘32 Ford 5 window is considered a deuce coupe by most people. I don’t know of anybody who thinks only the three window qualifies.
![]() 01/27/2016 at 12:22 |
|
Well, it’s absolutely still a coupe.
But we all know damn well the 3 window looks better
![]() 01/27/2016 at 12:23 |

Personal favorits.
![]() 01/27/2016 at 12:23 |

LOL
I hate B Pillars. If you ever have a chance to own/drive a big coupe with no b pillar, it’ll change you
![]() 01/27/2016 at 12:23 |
|
By your definition, the GMC Syclone fits. So that’s the answer.
![]() 01/27/2016 at 12:27 |
|
Agreed, and I think once you get to the post-war era your rule applies.
![]() 01/27/2016 at 12:28 |
|
Absolutely.
Coupes just look better with no b pillar. Not saying post cars are bad, just that they could be EVEN BETTER

Needs moar space wedge
and the clown shoe
![]() 01/27/2016 at 12:37 |

I need those cars. Maybe not the Bimmer but an ‘85 hardtop MR2 will be mine one day.
![]() 01/27/2016 at 12:41 |

Any Jag coupe is a good bet here.
E-type coupe is sex on wheels
XJS is brilliant in design, truly beautiful
XK is one of my all-time favorite cars, with it’s long sexy hood
and the F-type coupe is truly a jaw dropper
![]() 01/27/2016 at 12:45 |
|
Can’t speak for the Z3, but the MR2 is a hoot to drive
![]() 01/27/2016 at 12:50 |

There are many correct answers.
Ferrari 250 GT Lusso is the most correct.
![]() 01/27/2016 at 12:53 |
|
Obviously the correct answer is Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe!
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:02 |
|
That is not a coupe
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:03 |
|
This is a truck, not an automobile
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:04 |
|
The Jag is an hatchback
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:04 |
|
But this ain’t a proper coupe, that’s a hatchback
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:04 |
|
yea verily
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:04 |
|
Weeeeeeell technically its a hatchback, but I give it a pass because a.) its called the Z3 Coupe and b.) its sexy
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:05 |
|
That’s not even a car
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:05 |

Looks like a hatch to me

Rolls-Royce Wraith. The End.
Leaving sports cars aside.

By BMW standards, even the X6 is a coupe

Thought about owning one, but prices shoot up recently.

It has 2 doors and is low, wide, stylish, and sophistocated
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:16 |

No it isnt lol. Hatchback as a term didnt exist back then, so keeping to period correctness...
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:18 |

It is the best. Not the nicest, sportiest, most adorable. But the best. And I couldn’t choose the Atlantic again.
On my “to own list” are some others, like
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:19 |

Automobile by definition is a vehicle whose source of propusion is contained within said vehicle. It therefore is an automobile.
It has 2 doors.
It has a fixed roof.
It is low.
It is reasonably wide for the height.
It is oozing with style.
Getting a 4.3 powered GMC truck to outrun a Ferrari takes some sophistication.
ALL BOXES CHECKED BITCHES
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:28 |
|
But if it *was* a car, it would be a coupe. It has styling similar to a fintail Mercedes and a Mustang, so it *is* stylish and sophisticated. It’s also low, and wide for what it is.
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:36 |

Called Fixed Head Coupe by Jaguar...

I’m going to nominate the BMW CS, just because I can.
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:41 |

E-type coupe is kinda ugly
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:44 |
|
Series 1? You are the only person on the planet who thinks that, unless you mean the hunchback 2+2.
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:45 |

How about four doors with no B-pillars?
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:47 |
|
I’m going to second MontegoMan elsewhere in saying coupes should not have B-pillars. This proves it.
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:49 |
|
It is oddly proportioned
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:50 |
|
You’re oddly proportioned.
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:51 |
|
As long as it is 60s/ 70s I’m ok with it
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:52 |
|
This is a good point, and one I didn’t think of. It also nicely encompasses all the great big Fords I love.
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:52 |
|
Only on land
![]() 01/27/2016 at 13:54 |
|
I only have one “normal” pillarless car, though I suppose the Rover with the windshield down doesn’t even have A-pillars.
![]() 01/27/2016 at 14:06 |
|
I HIGHLY encourage 4 doors without B Pillars
They can’t build them anymore for obvious safety reasons, but they also don’t qualify in this coupe discussion.
![]() 01/27/2016 at 14:16 |
|
Right, it was idle curiosity, mostly. I have one and I think that’s one of its greatest features, but these days it’s even more bizarro than a pillarless coupe.
![]() 01/27/2016 at 14:43 |
|
Truth.
And it’s one of the features that makes me like your car so much.
I currently have a headliner issue in the Montego, only reason the half back windows have been up in pictures lately. Had to use an old pic to show it down.
![]() 01/27/2016 at 15:19 |

Do you have to be so picky? All the glass does is add more boot space. It’s a hatch only in operation.
Here’s what a regular roady looks like. :P
![]() 01/27/2016 at 15:21 |
|
Now that’s proper !
![]() 01/28/2016 at 13:42 |

Coupe de Ville.
![]() 01/28/2016 at 14:24 |

Vovo 780 Bertone
![]() 01/28/2016 at 14:25 |
|
Every single one of those would look better without a B Pillar
![]() 01/28/2016 at 14:28 |
|
Tri-spokes for lyfe.
![]() 01/28/2016 at 14:35 |
|
Well yeah but safety, wind noise, and staying dry.
![]() 01/28/2016 at 15:31 |
|
huughhh nope
![]() 01/28/2016 at 15:35 |
|
Firstly, I never said it was safe. Secondly, the wind and rain have never been an issue in my Montego. If they could figure that out in the 60's they can do it now (or at least the 90s)
![]() 04/11/2016 at 21:44 |
|
You are truly a fool
![]() 01/23/2017 at 16:21 |
|
Best ever? I don’t know if I can answer that for sure. But if you ask me to think of a really, really nice coupé, this pops into my mind:
![]() 06/06/2018 at 22:17 |
|
Ferrari 400 Super America. If you do not know it, shame on you.
Ferrari 250 GT Lusso. If you have not seen one in the flesh, you are still dead.
Ferrari 275 GTB/4. Asymmetery is a virtue.
BMW E9 2800 CS. The mass produced champion by Karmann.

That looks like TA and a Regal had a sad lonely baby :(
![]() 10/11/2018 at 13:23 |

I would vote for the XKE or the 928.
